CMA ANNOUNCES 2009 RESIDENCY PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM GRANTS Chamber Music America will award $114,000 in grants for residency projects in Alaska, Washington, Iowa, and New York, including continued support for four ongoing, multi-year residencies. The new projects receiving funding will be conducted by Artswego with Imani Winds, Jazzmobile, Musical Chairs Ensemble, Jeff Newell's New-Trad Octet, the Rocco John Group, and the Walden Chamber Players.

FIVE CMA MEMBERS WIN JJA AWARDS Congratulations to the SF Jazz Collective (Small Ensemble of the Year), Rudresh Mahanthappa (Alto Saxophonist of the Year, pictured at right), Anat Cohen (Clarinetist of the Year), William Parker (Bassist of the Year), and Bill Frisell (Guitarist of the Year), whose awards were announced by the Jazz Journalists Association at a ceremony held June 16 at New York City's Jazz Standard.

CMA ANNOUNCES 2009 COMMISSIONING PROGRAM GRANTS Chamber Music America (CMA) will award $181,500 in grants for ten classical/contemporary commissioning projects in six states. The commissions, for a wide range of ensemble works, are funded by a generous multi-year grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

TRIO CAVATINA TAKES NAUMBURG AWARD FOR CHAMBER MUSIC Performing Haydn, Kirchner, Brahms and Mendelssohn before a panel of judges at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, Trio Cavatina (Harumi Rhodes, violin; Priscilla Lee, cello; and Ieva Jokubaviciute, piano) won the Walter W. Naumberg Foundation's 2009 Chamber Music Award. The other competitors performing in the final round were the Jasper String Quartet, the Manhattan Piano Trio, and the Puff Quintet.

URGE YOUR CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVE TO SUPPORT INCREASE IN NEA FUNDING The House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee has approved a $15 million increase in NEA funding for 2010. Committee chairman Norm Dicks (D-WA) championed the increase. Please send a message to your Members of Congress, telling them to support this important funding increase, which would raise the agency's budget from $155 million to $170 million.
