Flights of Fancy: Arts Alive in CNY
Cazenovia Counterpoint festival July 10-20, 2013
Young Composers Corner (July 8 – 12) at Caz. Library. For Middle and High School students in CNY interested in composing in any style; mentored by young composers Nik Allen and Sam Peter. (One of last year’s participants won a NYS competition!) Free.
Rising Stars (July 10 and 17, 12:30 pm) at St. Peter’s Episcopal. Prize winning High School and College performers paired with young composers for premieres, alongside the classics. Free.
Drumming Circle (July 10 & 17 5 – 6pm) on the green near the cannon.All invited to bring their drums & noisemakers & join in the fun! Lead by Josh Ely; will lead into Caz Cruisin'. Free.
Concert in the Park – The Vanderbuilts (July 11, 7-9pm) At Lakeland Park, the SAMMY 2013 winner for best new artist will perform. In conjunction with the Caz Chamber of Commerce ‘concerts in the park’ series. Free.
The award-winning Harvey Potter’s Balloon Farm, set to music by Syracuse native Dan Lawitts, will receive its East Coast premiere July 12, 7pm at 1st Presbyterian. Renowned story-teller/author Bruce Coville narrates. Ice cream follows. $15, $12 seniors/students, $5 18 & under, families $20
The classic Wind in the Willows comes to life onstage at 7pm July 19 at Caz Theater with music by regional composers Dianne Adams McDowell and Jim McDowell. $15, $12 seniors/students, $5 18 & under, families $20.
Family Arts Day (July 20, 1 – 6pm) at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park. Includes a poetry round robin, Trumpet masterclass with John Raschella, reading of works from Young Composers Corner, a drumming circle, & a Bells & Bees concert of music by regional composers - all free except modest admission for concert ($15, $12 seniors, 18 & under free).
Writers Corner (July 13 at 3pm & July 16 at 7:30pm) featuring Syracuse Veterans’ Writing Group, Michael Steffen and Melissa Tuckey at St. Peters. Free.
Art Exhibit reception & Gallery Walk (July 13 4-6pm) at St. Peters Episcopal Hall, with music by guitarist/composer Jason Kessler, plus artist demonstrations. Free.
Invitational Art Exhibit (July 2-30) by regional artists is up in various venues throughout the Village of Cazenovia.
