Description

The only wind quintet to win a gold medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in ten years, THE CITY OF TOMORROW makes its New York debut at the DiMenna Center for the Arts on Friday the 19th of April at 8pm. Fresh off their first West Coast tour, the City of Tomorrow will present a program of rarely heard pieces, including Luciano Berio's Ricorrenze, Magnus Lindberg's Arabesques, and the New York premiere of British composer Rob Keeley's Wind Quintet. The group will collaborate with acclaimed New York pianist Katya Mihailova on Jennifer Higdon's sextet Summer Shimmers. Appearing as well is the old-time-favorite Darius Milhaud's Le Cheminée du Roi René.

Tickets are $25 Best View; $18 General; $10 students.

Since their Fischoff win in May 2011, the quintet has toured the Midwest twice and the West Coast in the spring of 2013. Performance highlights include the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Series in Chicago, a concert at the Mayo Clinic, the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis, and the Ashland (WI) Chamber Music Society on the scenic shore of Lake Superior. They collaborated with the Portland Cello Project for two performances of Radiohead's classic album OK Computer in Oregon last September. Most recently, the City of Tomorrow performed on the New Music Edmonton series preceded by a three-week residency at the Banff Centre in the Canadian Rockies. Upcoming projects include a residence at Williams College in Massachusetts and participation in the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival alongside The Jupiter String Quartet, eight blackbird and the Pacifica Quartet, among others.
