Description

Traditional forms collide with 20th century technology in this program for strings. George Crumb's intense Black Angels, for amplified string quartet, was written during the Vietnam War and calls for extended techniques and multiple instruments from the players. The Mozart duo is the second of two that he wrote on Michael Haydn's behalf; Camerata performs them both this season (the first in January). Schubert wrote his only String Quintet just months before his death; its power and depth make it one of the most significant chamber works of the nineteenth century.
