Description
Three highly contrasting new music works from our upcoming album of premiere recordings will be presented. "Two Pieces" by Marc Mellits was composed in 2000 and pushes both the rhythmic and tonal envelopes of both instruments in a style that is singularly Mellits. “Meshquanowat" is the Mesquaki Indian word for the red-tailed hawk. Commissioned by Jan Boland and John Dowdall for Iowa’s Sesquicentennial in 1995, this singing, dancing, soaring work by Jerry Owen takes its inspiration from this majestic, eagle-sized bird and the Mesquaki tribe. "South Shore Suite," by Jorge Muñiz was commissioned by Duo Sequenza in honor of Indiana's Bicentennial in 2016. This 26-minute work draws its inspiration from the historic personalities and unique geography of the Lake Michigan South Shore region. Including diverse musical elements from traditions found throughout the Midwest, jazz, country, R&B, hip-hop, and rock, the music is classically composed on an contemporary organic compositional fabric.
