Description

American Century Music returns to the St. Louis Art Museum on October 4th featuring a unique program of art songs by the great American composer, Samuel Barber. Performing will be the Florestan Recital Project - Aaron Engebreth, Baritone, and Alison d'Amato, Piano. A premier presenter of song collaborations in the United States, the Florestan Recital Project performed a complete cycle of all of Barber's songs during the 2009/10 season to critical and popular acclaim.

American Century Music, led by founding Artistic and Executive Director Scott Parkman, specializes in performing and presenting works by American classical composers from The American Century. According to Mr. Parkman, "This program is a special one - my colleagues Aaron Engebreth and Alison d'Amato of the Florestan Recital Project have selected some of Barber's most beautiful and poignant songs, spread out over the course of his entire life. The Art Song was where Barber went when he needed to replenish his soul, and we know of the incredible care he took in selecting texts. Barber's songs are probably the closest we can get to the essence of Samuel Barber's art."
