Shirley Sings The Incomparable Ethel Waters is an evening of songs made famous by America’s first black superstar: Ethel Waters. She was a woman of the theater, a celebrity and an
influential singer whose distinctive jazz singing and interpretive abilities have
been credited with influencing several of America’s greatest vocalists such as Bing
Crosby, Mildred Bailey, Connie Boswell, and Ella Fitzgerald. As a leading blues
artist, Ms Waters also introduced many popular standards such as Sweet Georgia
Brown, Am I Blue? and (What Did I Do To Be So) Black and Blue? The show features
songs, based on Ms. Water’s original arrangements, and brief narratives derived from
her autobiography “His Eye Is On The Sparrow.” The arrangements are fun, the music
is unique and the delivery is personal. The Incomparable Ethel Waters as sung by
Shirley Crabbe is an enjoyable program highlighting the signature songs of the great
American songstress: The Incomparable Ethel Waters. Length of show: 1.00 h
