The Carlsbad Music Festival is an annual event that features world-class adventurous performers and composers each September in the seaside village of Carlsbad. The Festival pushes the boundaries of genre by presenting contemporary classical music along with creative indie-rock, folk, world music and jazz and seeks the points of intersection. In addition, the Festival supports the creation of new music by commissioning works and enabling cross-genre collaborations. Praised by the Los Angeles Times as "magnificently enlightening," the festival received a 2010 CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Founded in 2004 by composer Matt McBane, the festival annually features its founding ensemble-in-residence, the Calder Quartet.
