The New Mellow Edwards have been together since 2003. Leader/trombonist Curtis Hasselbring’s compositions and the New Mellow Edwards' playing defies traditional jazz conventions and favors primal rock-derived grooves, textural explorations and classically-influenced structures. The repertoire of the group can be humorous, dark, accessible and exciting, often simultaneously. This ensemble features three of New York's most innovative musicians: bassist Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, John Zorn), drummer John Hollenbeck (Meredith Monk, Claudia Quintet) and saxophonist Chris Speed (Endangered Blood, Pachora) - ably led by the unorthodox and virtuostic trombonist.
