Formed in 2010 by mezzo-soprano Alyssa Anderson and guitarist Joseph Spoelstra, The Dream Songs Project has performed in venues across the Midwest. The duo programs a wide range of repertoire, including guitar transcriptions of lute songs and opera arias, classical and romantic art songs written for the instrument, as well as modern pieces and newly commissioned works for the ensemble. The Dream Songs Project strives to foster the creation of new music for voice and guitar through collaborations, commissions, calls-for-scores, and programming. To this end, the duo has commissioned pieces from a number of composers, such as Daniel Nass, Christopher Gable, and Katherine Bergman, and makes contemporary music a focus of many performances.

The Dream Songs Project is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a 2013 MRAC Community Arts grant. This award will allow the duo to commission a piece from composer Katherine Bergman, perform the piece on our January 2014 concerts, and record it for inclusion on our upcoming CD.

The Dream Songs Project is looking for new pieces for voice and guitar for performance in 2013-2014. Prizes are $1000 for the winning piece from a Minnesota composer and $500 for the winning piece by a composer from any state/country. Postmark deadline 6/1/13.
