Afinidad and Imani Winds record CMA commissioned works Sorrow & Triumphs and House of Numbers by Edward Simon. The recording is scheduled for release on Sunnyside Records in mid-April 2018.


On September 9, at the Brubeck Institute in Stockton, California, Simon will premiere a large new work commissioned by Chamber Music America, House of Numbers performed by his all-star quartet Afinidad and the acclaimed chamber ensemble Imani Winds.


The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra will give the world premiere of Venezuela Unida, a new work by pianist/composer Edward Simon, as well as selected movements from his CMA commissioned Venezuelan Suite. The performances will take place at Symphony Space on October 1st and 2nd at 8pm.


Pianist and composer Edward Simon will create House of Numbers, a 40-minute suite in four movements exploring the cross-cultural meanings of numbers and the possibilities offered by bringing jazz and classical musicians together.


Edward Simon will join distinguished colleagues to serve on the jury of the Jazz Fellowship Awards of the American Pianists Association. The winner will be named the Cole Porter Fellow in Jazz of the American Pianists Association and receive a prize worth over $100,000- the largest in the world for a young American jazz pianist.
