Supported by Friends of the DaPonte String Quartet, Midcoast of Maine
Formed in Philadelphia 23 years ago, the DSQ came to Maine on an NEA/CMA rural residency grant. There, the New York Times noted, they create an experience "like watching the Boston Celtics play in the local gym." While continuing to perform across the US, the DSQ are proud to call Maine home; their relationship with the state (where they were just voted "Best Musical Group”) remains a deeply rooted one.The Quartet repertoire ranges from 17th Century to cutting-edge contemporary works. They are known for honoring the context of the music and the composer's intentions, while keeping the interpretations fresh and inventive; as the Boston Globe put it: "Once again, the music could have been hot off the presses."
