Declared the "most imaginatively booked jazz club in New York" by The New York Times, The Jazz Gallery has nurtured several generations of creative musicians from around the world. Formerly in Soho and now located at 1160 Broadway in NoMad, The Gallery is a hub for creative work on the New York jazz scene, offering programming of unparalleled quality and diversity for audiences, residencies for promising composers (Residency Commissions program, established 2007), opportunities for veteran and young musicians to connect and collaborate (Mentoring Series program), and a much-needed rehearsal and performance space (The Woodshed program) where artists are free to take risks and experiment in pursuit of an original sound.
Jazz Speaks is the official blog of The Jazz Gallery, offering a look inside the Gallery and its goings-on. It was founded in 2012 by Rafiq Bhatia.
**** “The arrangements [are] as full as an orchestra twice this one’s size…individuals excite, even astonish…Over nine glorious tracks, everyone gets to shine. Live at the Jazz Gallery is a strong contender for 2007’s TOP-10 lists.” - Michael J. West, DownBeat Magazine
