Momenta, the plural of momentum: four individuals in motion towards a common goal. This is the idea behind the Momenta Quartet, whose eclectic vision encompasses contemporary music of all aesthetic backgrounds alongside great music from the recent and distant past. The NYC-based quartet has premiered over 100 works, collaborated with over 120 living composers and in the words of The New Yorker’s Alex Ross, “few American players assume Haydn’s idiom with such ease.” Momenta's album, Similar Motion, is available on Albany Records.////Momenta has received a Classical Commissioning grant for a new work by Alvin Singleton! GLORY BOUND features starkly contrasting moods and ideas, and various combinations highlighting the many facets of Momenta.

Momenta got together with Alvin Singleton to read the sketches of his new quartet, Glory Bound, and to share ideas. Meanwhile, we just performed one of his earlier quartets, Somehow We Can, on the second night of our third annual Momenta Festival at the Americas Society.

Momenta is elated to have received a Classical Commissioning grant for a new work by Alvin Singleton! The extended-movement work, Glory Bound, features stark juxtapositions of contrasting ideas; as well as solos, duos, trios, and tuttis highlighting the many facets of Momenta.
