The Jewish Music & Poetry Project commissions and performs new music to Jewish texts by Jewish women poets and women composers, as well as music by composers "banned/ forbidden" during the Holocaust. Instrumentation is any combination of soprano, piano, and cello. Recent premieres: Chanson fuer Morgen, by David Garner, 8 song cycle to texts by Mascha Kaleko, 2011; international premiere in Berlin, 2012. 2013 repertory include music by (in alphabetical order): Gabriela Lena Frank David Garner (premiere of Phoenix, with texts by Rose Auslaender), Edwin Geist (West Coast premiere of 3 Lithuanian Songs) Osvaldo Golijov Pavel Haas Vitezslava Kapralova Erich Korngold Ruth Lomon Laura Schwendinger.
