Portable Sanctuary is a Seattle-based ensemble led by percussionist and composer Paul Kikuchi. Kikuchi is joined by Stuart Dempster (trombone) and Bill Horist (guitar/prepared guitar), along with a rotating cast of guests.
The music utilizes Kikuchi’s found and invented percussion instruments, with compositions and improvisations based around their unique timbres and tunings.
Portable Sanctuary has been presented by Earshot Jazz (2009, 2011), has recently presented site-specific works for Seattle’s historic Union Station, and has one album out on Present Sounds Recordings.
