The International Music Foundation was founded in 1979 by Chicagoan Al Booth as the umbrella organization for the Do-It-Yourself Messiah and the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert series, now cornerstones of the Chicago classical musical scene. In 1981, with the help of Yehudi Menuhin, the IMF added Live Music Now!, a free concert series serving 45,000 children in the Chicago Public Schools. In 2016 IMF merged with Chicago's beloved Rush Hour Concerts. All three of RHC's programs will continue under the new banner: Summer Concert Series at St. James - 13 weeks of free chamber music by the city's premiere artists; the Make Music Chicago festival each June 21; and a professional ensemble residency program in under resourced neighborhoods.
