John Gilbreath Named a 2011 JJA Jazz Hero The Jazz Journalists Association has named CMA member John Gilbreath, executive director of Earshot Jazz in Seattle, WA as one of its 2011 Jazz Heroes-"activists, advocates, altruists, aiders and abettors of jazz" who have had significant impact in their local area.

Ensemble Dal Niente names new E.D.: Saxophonist Ryan Muncy has been appointed executive director of the Chicago-based new-music group Ensemble Dal Niente. A candidate for the Doctor of Music degree in saxophone performance at Northwestern University, Muncy succeeds founding composer Kirsten Broberg.

Pulitzer Prize for Zhou Long: Madame White Snake, an opera by Zhou Long, has won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Music. Based on a Chinese folk tale, the work combines Eastern and Western musical idioms.

Noteworthy Duo is currently in the studio recording their second CD. The disc will include works by Maximo Diego Pujol, Ariel Ramírez, Celso Machado, Ernesto Cordero, and a 4 movement work written especially for them entitled "Agua del Trapiché" by José Luis Merlin.
