Catharsis had a hugely successful premiere of our 2016 New Jazz Works commission, "The  Hope I Hold" at James Madison University on Nov. 7th and at Smalls Jazz Club on Nov. 8th. The piece is inspired by Langston Hughes' 1935 poem, "Let America be America Again".


We are aiming for early 2018 for the release of our Chopin Preludes album and music videos.

This season you can hear us perform brand new wind quintet arrangements: Beethoven's Piano Sonata #26 "Les Adieux", transcribed by our own bassoonist, Eddie Rumzis, and Liszt's Consolations, transcribed by David Plylar


We've received the completed score of our 2016 CMA commission from Evis Sammoutis! Look for the world premiere in DC. 2/11/18. This commission has been made possible by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program, with generous funding provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Chamber Music America Endowment Fund

Horszowski Trio

We received a CMA Commissioning grant last year, for a new piano trio by Andreia Pinto-Correia!  The new work is called "Night Migrations," and we will premiere it in San Jose, CA, on Novebmer 12, 2017.

WHEDco is thrilled to have been selected for a Residency Partnership grant by CMA, which will support WHEDco’s residency with the Garifuna Jazz Ensemble. Residency activities will explore, celebrate, and increase awareness of the language and culture of the Garifuna people, many of whom reside in the South Bronx.
