GRANTS
Residencies
CMA's Residency Partnership Program encourages projects in which jazz, classical/contemporary, or world ensemble music is presented outside traditional performance venues and in community settings, with the goal of increasing audience appreciation and awareness of small ensemble music. U.S. ensembles and presenters may apply.
Commissioning
Classical Commissioning is open to presenters and classical/contemporary and world ensembles based in the U.S. for commissions of new chamber works by American composers.
New Jazz Works: Commissioning and Ensemble Development supports professional U.S. ensembles for the creation and performance of new work in the jazz idiom. The program also funds activities that extend the life of the work, and allow the ensemble leader to acquire or increase career-related business skills. The program is open to U.S. jazz ensembles; the composer named in the application must work in the jazz idiom, and may be either a member of the ensemble or a guest composer chosen by the ensemble.
Presentation and Collaborations
Presenting Jazz is open to U.S. presenters working with U.S. jazz ensembles in public performance. The program gives preference to projects that present adventurous music and/or demonstrate risk-taking for the presenter.
CMA/FACE French American Jazz Exchange, now in its final year, has supported innovative collaborations between ensembles and/or individual musicians from France and the U.S. (or their territories).
AWARDS
CMA recognizes extraordinary achievement in the chamber music field though the Richard J. Bogomolny National Service Award, the Cleveland Quartet Award, the CMA/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming, and CMAcclaim.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Seminars and Workshops
First Tuesdays, a series of free professional-development seminars in New York City, is presented in collaboration with Midtown Arts Common and St. Peter's Church. Sessions are held October through June, usually on the first Tuesday of the month, and focus on a wide range of practical issues critical to the working ensemble.
Regional seminars are also held at booking conferences each fall.
National Conference
Held in New York City each January, the National Conference offers numerous sessions and workshops to strengthen business-related skills and to explore best practices in the profession.
Institutes
Specialized Educational and Residency Institutes are announced at intervals throughout the year.
Private Consultations
CMA program staff are available for consultations by appointment.
