I'm becoming more and more an acoustic purist. I'm baffled by the use, even by master musicians, of overly loud amplification in performance. I see small ensembles on stage in acoustically wonderful rooms playing with unnecessary banks of amps and monitors, and producing a sound which undermines the beauty of string, wood, reed, metal, and skin. We can create a healing experience for players and audiences alike, simply by saying no, whenever possible, to amps and mikes, and doing what musicians do: controlling and balancing our own sound. How refreshing!
