Graduate of the New England Conservatory, MM '86 and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, BM '76. Martin is a composer of broad ranging musical experience with a catalog of works including music for symphony orchestra, wind ensemble, chorus, chamber music and works for solo keyboard. Since 1994 many of his works also include music for traditional Japanese instruments. His music has been performed throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan. Awards for his music include a Certificate of Excellence from the International Center for Japanese Culture in Japan, Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Award, a prize from the New England Reed Trio International Composition Competition and a Bryant Fellowship from Harvard University.



The Duo Yumeno is including my "Water Music" (2005) on the concert tour in Japan this summer. Concert venues will include: 

Aoyama Memorial Hall, Kyoto on June 15th as part of the Music Fest Nara 2014

Myonichi-kan Hall, Tokyo on June 20th

Sakado, Ormeau Hall, Saitama on July 6th



My Two Japanese Idylls for classical guitar written for Aaron Larget-Caplan were performed by him at the 4th Annual Memphis International Guitar Festival hosted by the Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis on April 5th 2014.


The Duo Yumeno premiered a new work I composed for them "Bamboo and Silk Tango, Again" for Japanese koto and violoncello at Tufts University on February 1st 2014.
